Conway Public Schools (CPSD) is excited to announce the launch of our new volunteer initiative, the CPSD Community Champions Program. Under the banner of our inspiring slogan, “Be a Champion,” this program aims to enrich the educational experience by harnessing the dedication of community members to support and empower our students and educators.
Empowering Through Community Engagement
The Community Champions Program is designed to create a nurturing environment within our schools by engaging committed volunteers who offer their time and talents. Whether through classroom activities, tutoring, mentoring, event coordination, or administrative support, our Community Champions play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for our students and providing vital assistance to our teachers and staff.
What Makes a Community Champion?
A Conway Public Schools Community Champion is someone who generously contributes their time and skills to support a variety of school activities without financial compensation. Our volunteers include parents, guardians, community members, retirees, and students who are eager to make a difference. They assist with tasks ranging from bus supervision and lunch duty to reading assistance and office support.
Volunteer Requirements and Procedures
To ensure the safety and effectiveness of our volunteers, CPSD has established clear procedures:
Application Process: All prospective volunteers must complete the CPSD Community Champions Program Application. Regular volunteers are required to undergo statewide and nationwide criminal background checks ($10) and, if working closely with students, a Child Maltreatment Central Registry Check ($11).
Training: Volunteers must attend a mandatory district training session on district expectations and procedures. Training sessions for this year are scheduled for September 17 at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Approval and Supervision: Volunteers must receive approval from the building principal and will work under the guidance of school staff. Activities will be supervised, and records of volunteer engagement will be maintained and reviewed annually.
Code of Conduct
All Community Champions are expected to adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, which includes:
Signing in and out at the school office.
Working under the supervision of district employees.
Maintaining confidentiality and respecting all school protocols.
Reporting any concerns or emergency situations to appropriate school personnel.
Special one-time guests, such as those participating in guest reading days or field trips, are not required to complete background checks but should sign in at the front office through the Raptor system.
