Governor Sanders cooking with students

Conway High School's Culinary Arts program had the honor of welcoming Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders on Thursday, October 3, 2024, as the first Guest Chef of the year. Governor Sanders treated students to an exciting cooking demonstration, where she shared her famous Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe with the class.

The Culinary Arts students observed closely as the Governor guided them through each step of the process, from mixing ingredients to perfecting the pie’s crust. Following the demonstration, the students eagerly replicated the recipe at their own stations, enjoying the hands-on experience of making, baking, plating, and, of course, tasting the delicious pies. Even members of Governor Sanders’ security team joined in the fun and indulged in the freshly baked desserts.

“I was delighted to host Governor Sanders. Conway High School’s Culinary Arts program is a jewel, and today we had an amazing time cooking with the Governor,” said Leslie Tell, Culinary Arts Instructor at Conway High School. “It was a wonderful opportunity for my students to learn directly from one of our state’s leaders.”

“Conway High School is training Arkansas’ next generation of chefs – and I was honored to cook my famous Chocolate Pecan Pie with them,” said Governor Sanders. “Through Arkansas LEARNS, every Arkansas student has the chance to train for their future career in the classroom and we got to see that in full display in Conway”

The event marked the perfect beginning to what is sure to be an exciting year for Conway High School’s Culinary Arts program, with more guest chefs and opportunities to come.
